Thanks-and-Giving

October was a busy month. November has been a whirlwind - it's time for Thanksgiving and I don't know how that happened! I have no idea what has happened inbetween Halloween and now - though I'm sure something. Today kicked off a weekend of service. Saturday morning, the boys karate school had a community service opportunity - putting together 125 Thanksgiving baskets for families in need. Kids and parents show up to load turkeys, stuffing, veggies, bread, pies, etc. into a cooking tin, wrap them up pretty, fill up the vans and load them off to specific drop offs. Its busy, crazy and a wonderful time of coming together. Its been a tradition of Master Lee's for years. Today, our church celebrated its first Community Thanksgiving! Lots of volunteers worked for 2 days preparing food to serve all that wanted to attend. A free meal with more food than you can imagine! Austin's youth group joined early this morning to help set up, serve, and clean up. Austin and his friend Nate were in charge of prepping and serving the ambrosia salad. Way to go guys.

Also, for the last month the twins have been involved in a new program at church called "Kids with Purpose". It's a wonderful program teaching them about service to others. One week they made care buckets for firefighters, then they delivered the buckets to the firehouse (what a treat!). They also put together 25 HUGE baskets of food for Thanksgiving that was given out to those in the community. The children have also been able to witness the results of their good deeds.
It greatly moves me and I pray that the boys carry these experiences with them as they grow. Times are hard for everyone these days and there are defintely days you have to think a little longer for what we should be thankful for....but take a moment and reach out to someone, anyone. An act of kindness. It only takes one act. Just a moment in our usual busy day. Write a note to someone or leave a flower on someone's desk. That's what this time is all about - thanks and giving. It's quite beautiful. Happy Thanksgiving.
