Today closed the door on another chapter in our lives as we said goodbye to my family home, as we knew it. My parents lived at 106 Beall Avenue for 50 plus years. Sadly, my dads health became compromised and it was time for him to move somewhere safe and monitored. Today, Saturday, renters will be moving into my parents home. They are a lovely couple and will be a good fit, just like when my mom and dad were also a young couple moving in. It has been a long journey these last few months, cleaning out the house - whether throwing away junk or boxing up treasures - it was a journey of emotions. I said my final goodbye last night and took many pictures of all the things I might want to remember about the house....down to the ugly kitchen wallpaper or the ancient light switches that my dad never bothered to change! The renters will add new life into the home, make changes - paint, tear down ugly wallpaper - making it their home for at least the coming year. It's only goodbye for us, but hello for the house and its rebirth. Welcome Cassie and Ryan - hope you will make great memories in a house that has lots of experience in being a home!

Wow - I SO know how you feel. we just got a contract on my mom's house this week. being so far away from all the work (my sisters have had to do it all) - it really surprised me how it hit me to see the listing online - all the rooms empty and waiting for new family....all the traces of 50 yrs in that house.... seemingly erased. it will take some getting used to, not knowing that "home" is always there as it has been my whole life. The couple moving in are young newlyweds who work w/ children, he a pastor, she a teacher, looking toward starting a family - it is nice to think of a loving family making new memories in that cozy little nondescript but oh so important house.
