Sidewalk Madness

These last few weeks I have developed a new pet peeve....sidewalk repairs in the neighborhood. Now you probably wonder why something like that would get under my skin. The problem being, there is nothing wrong with the sidewalks or curbs! Seriously! You may have a crack or two, but come on...really...spend tax dollars on that? Our elementary school received a zero percent budget increase this year and our school had to cut teachers, increase classroom size, and send our kindergartners to a makeshift area at a middle school due to overcrowding - our school is 400+ students of capacity?? But by goodness, our neighborhood is going to have spanking new sidewalks to show for it! But before you get me started.....the last few mornings I have made some comments on the subject. So this morning, me not saying anything at all, Connor and Dylan have this conversation:

Dylan: Why can't President Obama make them build houses for people who need them instead of fixing sidewalks that don't need it?

Connor: Dylan, you don't call the President, you need to call Martin O'Malley, our Governor!

To be honest, even I didn't know the name of our Governor. True. Sad. But my plate and brain are too full for any of those details these days. Connor loves to quote commercials and I thought he may have watched a campaign commercial. However, he told me later that they are learning about American symbols and our local politicians in his 1st grade class. Glad to know he was paying attention. Out of the mouths of babes!

Someone is taking a Civics class. Good for your boys. I'm sure their political discussions are more savvy than most Americans.
