As the latest election comes to an end, these last few months were a great time to discuss with the boys about politics and why living in America is so great. I never discussed my own views or who was voting for who. The point of the conversations was that it was their American right that our forefathers....and mothers fought for this freedom and that it's nobody's business who you choose. Brett and I don't even discuss candidates or amendments - I don't want to know (though we're usually on the same page). With that part said, then there is Connor. Connor is our outspoken one - an opinion on everything. He remembers EVERYTHING he hears on t.v. and around him and forms his own STRONG views without any input from us.
Connor: Dylan get up and get dress fast, it's election day and we need to vote. (Connor is speaking in a very serious and demanding tone through all of this)
Dylan: Okay. (Dylan goes with the flow and doesn't really care about Connor's 999 issues)
Connor: We can't be late, they say the lines will be long, move fast.
Dylan: Okay
Connor: Dylan, now who are YOU going to vote for?
Dylan: Looking puzzled and with no clue what Connor is talking about (or either candidates name since he just woke up)
Connor: Obama or McCain
Dylan: McCain (because Connor was talking so fast and it was the last name he heard him say)
Connor: WRONG! You need to remember that McCain is the bad one and Obama is the good one.
Mommy intervening: Connor, no one is the bad one. McCain is a good American. Neither Candidate is bad or wrong - it's everyone's choice to vote for who they choose.
Dylan to Connor: Yeah Connor, I'm voting for McCain because someone has too.
That's my Dylan, always worried about the "underdog".... and Connor, well he will be our diehard politician. Unfortunately, they will probably cancel each other's vote out some day. Even at age 5, Connor had a good idea who was going to win. Never think they aren't listening and learning. They were very excited to go to the polls yesterday and watch me vote. Connor was very proud of his "I voted" sticker and made another issue of anyone he saw that wasn't wearing one.

What a fabulous to discuss such very important issues with your sons. Leave up to you, mother-of-the-century, to figure out a way. =)
This is very cute! You're a GREAT mom!
That was a great story! Jack and Caroline were very interested in all of it as well and we took them with us to vote.
I am so proud to call you my friend. I wish more parents would take interest in their children's future.
