Yes, Virginia, there really is a.....

It's been an exciting new week of school. As Connor started school with a splint on his finger from a bowling ball accident (his right hand). Soft tissue damage, but thankfully not broken. But as if that weren't enough, who knows how the story/event really went down, except I got a call from the school nurse. "Mrs. Hill, Connor claims that he has pencil lead in his ear. I've looked with a flash light but see nothing. He seems fine. Thought you should know". Well, I'm smart enough by now to know....when you have 3 boys, it's never "fine"....it's definitely always something. Never take it for granted. He came home as nothing happened. I called the dr. - come right in. At 5 p.m. that day the dr. said "Yep Mrs. Hill, there REALLY IS pencil lead in his ear!!!" The problem was, it was wedged against his eardrum, and she wouldn't touch it. Next day, off to an ENT, surely they have tweezers to remove it. "Well, Mrs. Hill, its wedged against the eardrum (as if I didn't know this already) BUT I may not be able to take it out in the office and we will have to put him in the hospital!" Okay, you're kidding right? Nope. The ENT decided to give it his best shot, so we drugged Connor with some type of liquid. He became really loopy, then put him on a papoose board and strapped down. Only his head and feet stuck out. Nurse gripping his head like a vice. The ENT was so shocked when he actually got it out - even he couldn't believe it! Thankfully, Connor's eardrum was not pierced - only a bruise. Connor had an earache for the next few days from the bruising but he recovered without scars. So how was your first week of school? (the pencil lead that was removed from his ear is in the middle - yes, I kept it and put it away to show him some day)

Oh Becky...I can totally empathize with your situation. My situation wasn't so scary. Roman pushed a peanut down his ear at preschool. While driving home, he kept singing that a peanut was in his ear. I chalked it up to a song he must have learned. When we got home, he started to pull his ear. I peeked in and sure enough there was a peanut.

I can only imagine how terrified you were with this situation. Thank the good Lord that everything turned out okay.
