In part two of Austin's heart experience (scroll down to previous post)....this was suppose to be included with the first post of the heart but I forgot. In January, Austin was able to take part in a series of workshops at Montgomery College for gifted and talented students in grades 4 & 5. Amazingly, one of the workshops was Anatomy I - dissection of a sheep's heart and brain (sorry for those of you who are grossed out by this). How perfect could it be, Austin was learning about the heart with his mentor and then this class became available. Though Austin was a bit put off in the beginning, he jumped right in to explore the heart. It really brought together everything he had been learning, he told me how he immediately recognized all the valves and ventricles. He was even able to answer questions the instructor was putting out to the class! It was a topic that went full circle for Austin. His only negative comment was "it smelled BAD!" The best part for me - he was able to cut apart the heart on his own without surgically removing any part of his fingers or hand!! Way to go Austin!

That is awesome, sounds like a GREAT program! I hope programs like that are here for J&C and Lauren when they get older
Paging Dr. Best-Hill, paging Dr. Best-Hill...your mother is on line one! Kudos to Austin for giving a demo at such a young age.
