"Whoopi-ty-aye-oh, Rockin` to and fro, Back in the saddle again, Whoopi-ty-aye-yay, I go my way, Back in the saddle again" - Cowboy Legend Gene Autry
After an exhausting two weeks, Austin finished his horseback riding camp today. He loves working with the horses - grooming their coats and cleaning their hooves. A couple days ago the farrier was at the stables....farrier who...farrier what? Yes, farrier (that's pronounced fair-e-er) - no that is not a kin to a ferret but believe it or not, that is the official word for people that specialize in horse foot care! One of the farriers let us watch while he replaced all four shoes and explained
every step in detail. Quite a process! When he was finished, he gave the boys the old shoes (even scrapings off the horses hoof - uck!). The boys then spent the afternoon scrubbing and cleaning the shoes, painting and decorating their good luck charms. In case you were wondering, you ALWAYS hang your horseshoe like the letter "u" (as Dylan is demonstrating in the picture) so that the good luck stays in, if you hang it with the opening downward - that lets the good luck fall out.
